The Old Castlemaine Gaol is an old prison located in Castlemaine VIC, just 2-hour drive from Melbourne or Geelong. Built from 1861 that was used until 1990. Then from 1909 until 1954, it served as a reformatory boys’ school before becoming a prison facility once again.

Old Castlemaine Gaol – once synonymous with despair and sorrow, has been transformed into a sanctuary that radiates life, joy, and art. Within the sprawling, heritage-laden walls, visitors can explore a dynamic landscape, both in terms of the art on display and the historical context that envelops the museum.

The two-hectare garden, with its meticulously landscaped beauty and tranquil courtyards, provides a serene backdrop for this unique artistic journey. As you meander through this captivating space, you’ll discover a profound connection between the past and the present. Three dedicated rooms further enrich the experience, offering a glimpse into the colonial history that has left its indelible mark on the Old Castlemaine Gaol.

The Bromley Collection Museum at the Old Castlemaine Gaol is not just a museum; it’s an embodiment of the belief that creativity knows no bounds. It is a celebration of art, culture, and the enduring human spirit, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in a world where the axis has shifted from darkness to a brilliant celebration of life and art.
